Bike for Three! - More Heart Than Brains

Artist: Bike for Three!

Album: More Heart Than Brains (2009)

Bike For Three!'s More Heart Than Brains is an impressive debut of smart pop, roiling downtempo, and introspective rap that finds its two architects embracing the romance inherent in their unique circumstances: Separated by an ocean and having never met in person, Buck 65 and producer Greetings From Tuskan share a startlingly powerful connection that unfolds through their music.

(…). Shrouded in strange magic, anchored by the heavy stuff of life, and lifted by a mutual magnetism still uncharted, their music is a bright/stunning combination of downtempo textures, smart pop, and exposed lyrical bones.

David Thomas - Bicycle

Artist: David Thomas

Song: Bicycle

Album: Monster Walks the Winter Lake (1986), Monster box set (1997)

David Thomas has been the bizarre and wonderful voice of Pere Ubu since the band's emergence from the Cleveland underground in the mid-'70s. In that capacity, he's attracted critical accolades from every quarter, if not teen idol status or platinum sales -- which isn't completely puzzling, given that he tends to write songs about birds, dinosaurs and hats, that he sings in a sort of strangled warble, and that his early stage name was Crocus Behemoth.

Monster Walks the Winter Lake is David Thomas' fourth solo album. The album is noted as being the most personal album in David Thomas' canon. The album was included in the 1997 David Thomas anthology box set Monster.

(…) Toward the end of one of Pere Ubu's many periods of inactivity, singer David Thomas made this album with a pickup group he named the Wooden Birds, members of which included bassist Tony Maimone, synth player Allen Ravenstine, and percussionist David Hild -- in short, a band suspiciously similar to Pere Ubu in makeup. Monster Walks the Winter Lake is something of a song cycle

music

Under the moonlight,
a woman on a bicycle floats -
carefree & buoyant,
balanced in the air.
She drifts between the curves of a quiet street,
between the banks of a slow deep stream.

Under the moonlight,
the night breathes and enfolds us.
Its scent of warm skin is fragrant & fine.
It binds us together,
suspended in time,
we drift with the current of a slow deep stream.

Velvet - 19th Century Bicycle

Artist: Velvet

Song: 19th Century Bicycle

Album: Where Are the People? (2001)

13-song debut release from this Wilmington, NC combo. A collage of thoughtful arrangements, heavy-hitting pop, catchy melodies and beautiful male/female vocal harmonies. Highly recommended, especially for fans of thoughtful pop ala Aimee Mann and Jason Falkner, and 80s legends such as Crowded House and Squeeze.

Ugly Kid Joe - Bicycle Wheels

Artist: Ugly Kid Joe

Song: Bicycle Wheels

Album: Motel California (1996)

This is a real stepping stone for the ugly kid californians, unfortunately it was to be the last, the promo was little, but the sales were pretty good (except america). Clearly UKJ hit the world when they ventured out of santa barbara.

From start to finish, the whole 12 songs are diverse. Unlike the previous 3, Motel takes a good few listens to breathe and encompass.....Something ukj have always done throughout their 4 releases they pack a cocktail of unusual and highly infectious rock sounds...Motel is hard to sum up as a whole, there's trippy songs like sandwich and bicycle wheels, agressive punchy titles like it's a lie and then laidback cool, dark californian rock numbers like undertow and would you like to be there...whatever you do, whatever you buy, you need this album.

Life is to be lived on the positive tip
Never lose the ground
You never gonna slip
If you never lose the ground
Always draw the line
Never wear the frown
Should've got myself some bicycle wheels
Should've got myself some bicycle wheels
Should've got myself some bicycle wheels
On the wings of steel
There's dinosaur's in countries
Everyone that I've seen
There's dinosaur's in countries
If you know what I mean
I always keep a watch on the ever changing future
Doing what I want
And you could do what suits you
I said throw your hands in the air
I like to see your armpit hair
Throw your hands in the air
I like to see your armpit hair
Life is to be lived on the positive tip
I'll never lose the ground
You know I'm never gonna slip
Never gonna slip, cause I never lose the ground
Always draw the line
You know I never wear the frown

Superhero - The Bicycle Thieves

Artist: Superhero

Song:  The Bicycle Thieves

Album: The Bicycle Thieves (2008)

Coming in to land somewhere between Delirious and U2 but no pale imitation of either, Superhero’s The Bicycle Thieves brings us Christian rock at its best: distinctive, sometimes melodic, sometimes brash, but always sharp. It’s an album you can leave on repeat play with no regrets as the lyrics mesh with the music to haunt your imagination.

The title track is well chosen:

We are all just bicycle thieves
Looking for a new set of wheels…

And anyway, it’s hard for me to steer
with all these stones in my hands
This is definitely not the way it was originally planned…
